Some Silliness (and a giveaway!)

You may be wondering why I have a dessert on my yoga mat.  What does yoga have to do with a food blog?

Here’s the thing:  this blog is fueled by yoga.  I have a full-time job, I’m a wife (read: laundry-doer, house cleaner, lunch packer, short-order cook), and I run this blog along with any other side projects that come along as a result.  To say that my plate is full would be an understatement.  Twice a week, I go to yoga.  And it all melts away.

Yoga has been part of my stress-relief for 8 years now.  In fact, I used to teach yoga in undergraduate school as a way to save up money for my move to California.  Every piece of Ikea furniture in my first California apartment was bought with money I made from teaching yoga.  Yoga has gotten me places in life.

My oatmeal cookies with rum-soaked raisins stack nicely in your hand during a yoga session:

I can say with confidence that yoga will always be a part of my life.  If it leaves my life, I immediately feel out of sync, swaying and bobbing in a world that seems too ‘gimme gimme.’  There have been weeks since we moved to Kansas that I’ve declared that I don’t have time for yoga.  Mr. Dessert For Two would quietly take over some of my chores so that I would be free Tuesday at 5:50.

When we were preparing to move to Kansas, we had our choices of 3 cities.  I did a quick yelp search to find yoga studios in each of the cities.  One city had zero yoga studios.  It was immediately eliminated from the list.  I’m forever grateful that Brian saw my point of view.  We chose the city we live in now because it had several yoga studios, but most importantly, one studio run by an instructor from Los Angeles.  My mind was immediately made up.  We moved here 8 weeks later.

Don’t try this at home…cupcakes on your butt during down-dog is tricky business!

I’ve been going to her classes for one year now.  Lately, I’ve been feeling like I have too many jobs; too many roles for one person.  And while I’m desperately trying to eliminate something from my plate, for 70 minutes, she makes me forget it all.

So, I’m begging you:  if you are feeling overwhelmed, try yoga.  It’s powerful.  Yoga is warm, welcoming, and self-centering.

And if you need more convincing, I’ve teamed up with Albion Fit to offer you a $100 gift certificate towards their cute, comfy yoga clothes.

I’m wearing the 26.2 white hoodie and the graphite capris.

Albiot Fit also has adorable swimwear and work-out gear:

Most of all:  try not to take yoga too seriously.  If I can do it with piles of cookies in my hands and cupcakes on my butt, then you can do it, too!  If all else fails, eat the cupcake!

I would order more yoga pants. I think that the world would be a happier place if we could wear yoga pants all of the time. Oh. Maybe that would be my world. Whatever.

What a great post. I have practiced yoga on and off for 15 years. About 2 months ago, I decided to commit to going two time a week. It has really been doing me a world of good. So much so that even though I’ve been busier than ever–I still go. It’s a lot of time but the payoffs are worth it!

  3. Darcie says

I’d order more yoga pants… because who doesn’t need more yoga pants? :) I also like the “love racer” shirts in sea foam, dewberry, and coral. I think those would be nice for yoga… and that reminds me, I need to get back into yoga ASAP!

I love this post! I’ve been following you forever on instagram and reading your blog, but I had no idea you were a yoga teacher! I graduate from my 230 hr teacher training next week! I can’t wait to find a real studio to teach at! I love these pics also, way too cute :)

  5. says

Woah, look at you looking all cute while working out. Teach me your ways, lady! I would love to get a pair of the charcoal crops. They are adorable and would be perfect for yoga!

  6. says

I’m so glad you posted this today! As I was going through my morning routine today, feeling more anxious than usual, I thought to myself, “I haven’t been to yoga in weeks, it’s time to go back”. And then immediately went into downward dog and realized how TIGHT I have become. Yoga is good for the soul. No doubt!

  7. Jessica Mullins says

You are so cute!! I love the yoga post! I would order the carpris you are wearing. They look super comfy!

  8. Kelly says

I would get the go long crew with thumb holes. I’ve been resistant to wear something with the thumb holes, but I’m starting to think it could be great.

  9. Rachel C. says

I’d love to order a Lover Racertop in charcoal or silver, or a heather grey signature hoodie. I love the thumbholes!

  10. Sandy Headtke says

I would love to have the Go Long Crew in every single color. Couldn’t pick just one, they are all my favorite

  11. says

Hahahaha! You are too funny! Cookies + cupcakes + yoga = a gooooood thing! I love yoga. It is also my stress reliever. I love how even if I haven’t done it in a while, my body starts to remember everything in a few short sessions.

  12. says

So many great choices but I pick the Love Racer Silver tank and Rainbow Skirt! And I want to know who put the cupcake on your back while you were in downward dog. My kids (or dog) would steal that cupcake in less than a second if I tried to take that picture!

Hi Stephanie! My husband balanced 2 cupcakes on my butt during this pose! The hardest part was that I was laughing so hard, I was worried they’d fall off. And they were too delicious to waste! We ate ’em, no worries ;)

  13. Elizabeth says

I’d pick the full zip top in seafoam/gray.. perfect for the boat this summer!!! Thanks for the giveaway!

and i know exactly what you mean – exercise clears my head and makes me feel centered. i’m no longer allowed to do yoga because of an injury, but i was doing it 7 days a week for 6 months and i’d never felt more powerful, calm and happy!

  16. Lisa L. says

I would probably get the Ballerina suit in plum, or the petal pant! Thanks for the chance to win! :)

i recently noticed that my gym has two yoga classes during the week. i was thinking that i may try it out – now, after reading your post, i’m definitely going to try it out!

  18. Becca from Cookie Jar Treats says

I have recently gotten into yoga too. It is so much better than running and I actually enjoy it as a workout :)

I really like the alta sports bra in graphite and black. So cute :3

  19. says

I’m so glad you found a good yoga studio where you’re at! Ever since we moved to the foothhills, I’ve been missing my old yoga instructor and haven’t done much yoga at all here. :( One of these days, we may have the chance to do some downward dogging together…with cupcakes on our booties. ;)

  20. says

Hahahahaha I laughed out loud at your cupcake butt picture. I adore you.

I would order some more workout tops – I love ones that are good for the gym, or yoga, or borderline good for running errands. Because let’s be real, changing clothes is a pain. ;-)

This post made me SOOOOO happy! You have such a great sense of humor and attitude, and reading all that you balance (literally and figuratively) is truly inspiring. I love that you had dedicated time set aside for yourself and keep yoga a priority. It’s a wonderful example for all of us. Way to go xo

  22. says

Oh, girl…I just LOVED this post! I really think it is yoga that is missing in my life. I’m no complainer, but I often feel frazzled and inundated with all the “to do lists” and things on my plate. Goals are fabulous, but we need time to ourselves to get centered and feel back in control of things. Also, to better enjoy life! So glad you set priorities as to where to settle down and make a home. God bless your hubby for supporting you so! Thanks for sharing, Christina! xoxo

  23. Mary B says

I would order the High Tide suit, I just love the blue chevron print and need it in my wardrobe. The serenity tank would also be a good addition.

  24. Becky says

I would try to decide from their selection of yoga pants. I loooooove me some yoga pants. Cupcakes too! ;)

  25. Tiffany says

I’m currently addicted to workout skirts/skorts! They are so stylish and feel great when working out. I would order the Surprise Skirt-White/Seafoam.

  26. says

Umm I think that choosing your city based on yoga studio is a GREAT decision! One of the biggest bummers about moving for me, whether it be cross-country or just across town, is having to switch yoga studios. Glad you found a great one!

  27. says

I want a cupcake on my butt! You’re too adorable, girl.

I need to try yoga for reals. One time, I tried it in my ex-boyfriend’s backyard and he was like SUPER SERIOUS about it. His cat was all bopping flowers in the backyard and being cute, and I was laughing at the cat while doing warrior pose, and he was like “SHHH YOGA IS ABOUT INNER PEACE” and I was all whoaaaa. We broke up a week later. Inner peace YOUR FACE, ya douchenugget.

Anywaaays. It looks relaxing if you’re not doing it with an ex-boyfriend who takes it way too seriously. So I’ll try it myself. Or with you, since dessert is involved.

  28. Emily W. says

I really enjoy yoga. Invited my husband to do it with me one time last week as a matter of fact. It was hilarious, and we had a great time laughing together. I’ll just say I’m glad he wasn’t in a studio because that yoga really got him moving…

Anywho. The criss-cross suit or the high tide look pretty sweet. The love racer top looks awesome, but so does the draw cord top. Also the stamina shorts, the wrap skirt…yeah. Not that I’ve looked at every product they offer or anything…

  29. ChristineM says

I have never done Yoga, and I feel out of sync, so I am willing to give it a try, I think I would buy the matt first, and a DVD so I can learn

  30. Kristen says

Since I’m a SAHM of 2 young boys with another on the way I don’t get much opportunity for exercising! The signature hoodie and lounge capris look super comfy for casual wear around the house and if the opportunity for a walk pops up. Thanks for the opportunity!

  31. Marie says

I would order the Mantra Yoga Pant in the Petite length (I’m only 4’10”!)…I’ve been wanting some for so long :)

  32. Jeffrey says

My wife would look fantastic sitting next to our pool in the Gown Swimsuit in the color Charcoal. I would have to pick up a 26.2 Jacket for her as well, she completed her first marathon almost 2 months ago.

  33. Jennifer says

What a lovely site Albion is- if I won, I would choose the Breathe
Freely top and cropped pants. Thanks for the giveaway-
